The process

Submit an application
One application gives you access to every dog in our care. Tell us about your home, your family, your other pets, and what you're looking for.

We review and verify
We read every application personally and reply within 72 hours. We verify that you own or rent, and we do a complete vet check — please give us every vet you've used for your current and previous pets, with phone numbers.

We talk
An interview with one of us about your home, your experience, and what you're looking for.

Meet your match
A meet and greet at the foster home, so you meet your new best friend in a setting familiar to them. We also run weekend adoption events — keep an eye out for upcoming dates on our Instagram and Facebook.

Take time to be sure
Before you commit, we ask you to step out to your car for at least 15 minutes. We care deeply about our dogs and want them to have their best life — this makes sure everyone is deciding in the dog's best interest, not on impulse.

Take your dog home
If it's a fit, you go home together. We stay in touch — for life. We're here whenever you need us.
Common questions
Is there an adoption fee?
Yes. Adoption fees vary by dog and reflect the vet care, medical needs, and time in foster for that specific shepherd. The current fee for any dog is shown on that dog's profile in our adoption listings.
Why isn't it first-come-first-served?
Because every shepherd is different, and every family is different. We've been doing this for 23 years — we know what works. We match for the long haul.
What if I'm not in Washington?
We adopt dogs to the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Submit your application and we'll get back to you.
Can I adopt if I have other pets / kids / a small place?
Yes. We have shepherds who do beautifully with other dogs, with cats, and with kids. That's what the matching process is for.
